God spoke to me this week in a few different ways and planted some important thoughts in my head that I don’t think I will ever be able to forget.
I made a friend in El Salvador, who name was Moises. He was of of the National staff that worked with us for the week. Moise’s story is special because God took him out of a destructive lifestyle and radically changed his purpose for living. He was once part of a gang in El Salvador and left it after God shook up his world. I found myself extremely curious about the gangster lifestyle and asked him any questions.
How can you leave a gang
One of the questions I asked him was “How can you leave a gang without being killed?” He told me there are only two ways. The first is that you run. You just leave. You can’t tell anyone where you are going or where you are headed; you just do it. However, if the gang finds you or you try to come back, you will be killed.
The second is to become a Christian. I know. Like what? Yes, apparently most gangs in El Salvador have extreme respect for Christians, and as long as they see that you truly have turned your life around and you aren’t faking it then you are safe. They actually give you a period of time of about four months and if you are still active in your previous lifestyle then you could be killed.
We also have two options
It still blows me away that Christians are so well respected in the gang community there. What he told me got me thinking though, that in life when we are stuck in sin and looking for a way out, we also have two options. We can run. We can find something else, some other way to fulfill ourselves, because that other thing just wasn’t working. We can keep searching. Or, we can turn to God. We can allow Him to swoop in, fix us, and set us up on His grand and fulfilling path for our lives.

Thank you so much for supporting me and giving me and giving me the opportunity to make a difference in El Salvador. You guys are truly in the life changing business, because without your support I wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to invest in the lives of those who don’t know the Lord in El Salvador. Here’s an overview of what I took away from my time there.
